Foothill Ranch is today a thriving, highly sought-after master planned community located in the foothills of south Orange County. Stirling’s founders Dougall Agan and Chris Downey were charged with fulfilling the vision for Foothill Ranch at a time when the land was inaccessible and undeveloped. The work to make a complete community included creating transportation corridors and building roads where none had previously been located. With one bold, decisive accomplishment, the roadways opened up the hills of south Orange County paving the way for extensive residential and commercial development.
In addition to economic investment and development planning, the Foothill Ranch vision encouraged a forward-thinking balance of open space. Carrying out this vision, more than 1,600 acres of natural terrain were preserved, creating one of the largest wilderness parks in south Orange County. This respect for the land and open space commitment helped attract industry-leading companies including Oakley, Nike, Kawasaki, Black & Decker, Wet Seal and Bal Seal, among other corporate names.
The development of Foothill Ranch helped spur greater economic investment in surrounding communities such as Lake Forest, Irvine and Mission Viejo. It is Stirling’s big-picture progressive thinking that looks at both short-term priorities and long-term opportunities that makes the difference and provides an example of how a project is truly more than the sum of its parts.
